ECMS Hope Squad fosters peer support, mental wellness
The East Clinton Middle School Hope Squad continues to be a vital force in promoting mental health awareness and peer support within the school community.
Co-advised by Kari Terrell and Sara Shaner, the squad has grown from 10 to 20 members over the past four years, a testament to the students’ commitment and leadership.
Hope Squad is a peer support program that trains students to recognize signs of emotional distress among their classmates. Members learn to connect peers with necessary help and resources. These students are recognized as role models of compassion, courage and kindness, consistently supporting others out of genuine concern for their well-being.
“It is because of their leadership, dedication, and authenticity that we are able to continue this vital work,” Shaner stated. “Their presence has made our school a more connected, supportive, and safe place for everyone.”
The advisors expressed immense honor in supporting the students in their crucial efforts to enhance mental health awareness and peer support at East Clinton Middle School.
