A national suicide prevention and intervention program designed to change the way students talk about mental health held a special event at a school in Henderson.

Coral Academy of Science Sandy Ridge Campus, located on Eastern Avenue and St. Rose Parkway, held “Day of Hope” on Thursday.

During the event, students created hope ribbons and bracelets and decorated the hallways, offering support and encouragement.

The school’s Hope Squad also creates school-based peer support teams comprised of students who are trained to recognize warning signs in their classmates who may be at risk and to seek help.

The program is sponsored locally through the City of Henderson, which partners with 15+ schools to expand student-led mental wellness and suicide prevention efforts across the community.
